Water mixable paint is expensive, and its main purpose is canvas painting.
However, the paint can be applied for outdoor projects. The paint becomes water resistant when it dries. But it needs more protection because the paint is now exposed to sunlight, rain, cold, moisture, humidity, and other environments.
You should seal the paint with varnish on the final layer. It will make the paint more water resistant, protection, and long-lasting.
How do you seal water mixable oil paints?
After the paint dries 100%, you should apply varnish to seal the paint. There are two types of varnish.
- Spray varnish
- Liquid varnish
For outdoor uses, spray varnish is recommended option because it is easy to apply, fast dry, and lasts permanently.
How to apply the spray varnish?
You need:
- Spray varnish
- Protection (mask, gloves)
How to apply?
Step 1: Shake the spray varnish well before use.
Step 2: Wear protective gear such as a mask and gloves to protect yourself from the fumes.
Step 3: Hold the can at a distance of about 30 cm (12 inches) from the painting and apply the varnish in a sweeping motion, making sure to cover the entire painting surface.
Step 4: Allow the varnish to dry completely before applying a second coat if necessary. Drying between coats can take 20 minutes to 1 hour.
Step 5: Let the final coat of varnish dry for at least 24 hours.
